losOlivos offers Eco working holidays, including the harvesting of olives and almonds, or general farming work on the land. These are opportunities to connect with nature, and a complete change of scene for those normally based indoors.
losOlivos is also an excellent base from which to discover the Natural Park of Sierra Nevada, and offers ramblers and bird/nature watchers unique opportunities. There are few locations in the Natural Park where people are able to stay within the Park environment. Sierra Nevada is home to many unique species not found anywhere else. These breaks can be organised during our Open House weeks.
>> Guided walks can be arranged in the park with experienced local walkers, please enquire about availablility when booking or on arrival.
To find out more about the natural environment around losOlivos, you can take a look at:
> The Environment Agency website, which details much of the local fauna and flora. This lists the various species with a Spanish and Latin name. The site is mostly in Spainish, but is probably the best place to start.

> The Padul Lagoon, a bird watchers paradise, with many rare species, only 10 miles from losOlivos. You can take a look at all of the birds that can be spotted there at this website http://www.elpadul.es/medio/aves.htm. If you click on the name of the bird, you will be shown various pictures.
losOlivos is located in one of the most beautiful and impressive natural parks in Spain (Sierra Nevada). Central to our vision is a clear commitment to a Green Agenda which combines rigorous environmental management with minimal ecological impact.
One of the ways in which we seek to minimise the impact on the park is by welcoming only small groups to the centre (a maximum of 20 people at a time).
losOlivos is a carbon neutral centre, generating all its heating and power from renewable energy sources. For electricity we use photovoltaic panels and windmills, and for heating and hot water, solar panels and a biomass boiler. In addition, we work in partnership with Climatestewards to offset the carbon generated by our guests in reaching the centre. |
